Covers vs. Originals — Why I Still Do Both
music creative
Covers are a conversation. You learn phrasing, pacing, and how a great melody earns space without shouting.
Originals are where you answer back—messy, honest, sometimes half-finished until the right night.
I don’t treat them like separate worlds. If a cover teaches me something, I let it train my instincts for the next line I write. If an original feels stiff, sometimes I play a cover first and loosen up.
Same basement. Same rule: serve the song, not the ego.
